PLAZA DE Santo Domingo
This square frames a group of buildings of enormous interest, the main one, which was the Convent of San Miguel de Las Victorias, founded by Fray Domingo de Mendoza in 1530, which since the 60s has housed the first Institute of Secondary Education on the Island. under the name of the famous palm tree Alonso Pérez Díaz, its main promoter.
The Church of the Convent houses an important collection of imagery, among which two of the best works by Fernando Estévez del Sacramento, a Dolorosa and a Nazareno, stand out, which procession on Holy Wednesday in what is known as Punto en La Plaza.
In this square you can also find interesting buildings such as the one that houses the headquarters of the College of Architects, the Museum of Contemporary Art / Interpretation Center of the Bajada and the Museum of Education, a small museum that is dedicated to the History of Education on the island.
