OURCULTURE
Santa Cruz de La Palma is a city of culture. Our history is full of diverse cultural influences that today can be seen in the theater, music and exhibition offerings that are relevant to the small city that we are.
Two theaters, one of them converted into a charming cinema, three exhibition halls and several museums located in emblematic places await the visitor.
THEATRES
TEATRO CIRCO DE MARTE
Calle Virgen de la Luz, 5
This singular theatre was built in 1870 and opened a year after.At first it was a cockfighting place because this kind of spectacle was very popular at that time. Between 1914 and 1818 it was converted in a theatre and because of this its peculiar form.
Its name comes from the Roman Circus (Circo), the place where they celebrated their fight spectacle and Marte, the god of war. In 1982 it was acquired by Santa Cruz de La Palma City Hall. It is a multidisciplinary space where every type of shows have taken place thought time.
In April 1997, it was declared Heritage of Cultural Interest of the Canary Islands with Monument Category, it is considered one of the most emblematic building of the city in the capital of the island. Here you can enjoy music, dance and theater shows.
TEATRO CINE CHICO
Calle Díaz Pimienta, 1
One located on the site of an old house-hospital founded in 1514, this magnificent but very petite former theatre originally opened in 1866 and reopened in 2014 as a cinema. Ask staff if you can pop inside to admire the interior with its painted ceiling above the stage and elegant old galleries. Even better, to see a film.

Near the Plaza de España you can find this Little Exhibition Hall that usually shows local painters. In Christmas is also here a handcraft shop.
PALACIO DE SALAZAR

This cultural center is located in one of the most beautiful building in the city. You can find here different activities like expositions, and a handcraft shop.
